"A SACRED OATH
A FALLEN ANGEL
A FORBIDDEN LOVE

Romance was not part of Nora Grey's plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how hard her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch comes along. With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Patch draws Nora to him against her better judgment.

But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure whom to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is and seems to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.

For she is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen - and, when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost Nora her life."

Lovely Vicious Series by Sara Wolf

Seventeen-year-old Isis Blake hasn’t fallen in love in three years, nine weeks, and five days, and after what happened last time, she intends to keep it that way. Since then she’s lost eighty-five pounds, changed her wardrobe/hair, and moved to the nowhere Ohio to help her mom escape a bad relationship. All the girls in her new school want one thing and that's Jack Hunter. The only thing Isis fells for him is her fist against his face... and now it's game on.

I fell upon this book after seeing the reviews and I knew it would be a book I'd read in the near future... Seeing the cover had me move it too the top of my list... I Cover Lusted hard for books one and two. Oddly, even though this isn't a perfect book series, I'm pretty sure it's the one that just got me out of my reading slump.

The Lovely Vicious Series was surprisingly good! The lack of polish is actually what won me over with this read. The story follows two main characters. Isis and Jack. When I first started this series I thought, "Jack is a great character and all... Like Jack you're cool, BUT DAMN! Isis stole the show!", She is amazing! I haven't laughed that loud while reading in so long. Isis is the "ex-fat girl" who has recently moved to a new town. She winds up at one of the parties the popular girl from school throws. While at this party she ends up sticking up for a girl that our leading male, Jack, is making fun of. By sticking up for I mean she punches him in the face. AND IT IS AMAZING! From then on out Isis and Jack are in a prank war. Isis though a little insecure, due to being burned in the past, is still a strong leading protagonist. Doesn't hurt that everything she says is hilarious!

“Did you have fun? How many boys did you make out with?” She asks. “Seventy. At least.” “How many shots did you take?” “Fourteen. I let go of the wheel halfway home and Jesus drove me the rest of the way.”

For the most part she oozes confidence. I absolutely love that she doesn't take bullying laying down. She stands up for herself and doesn't let the haters get her down. I love that she says everything she's thinking, and every time she thinks out loud I died... Just so funny. I liked that even through all that witty banter she finds ways to slip really quotable beautiful lines in. Jack is your typical Ya hottie. He is the Ice Prince that leaves a trail of broken hearts all while looking like an Abercrombie model. Their relationship was something I would usually complain about because there is a lot of build too it, but I really enjoyed their banter and overall loath for one another. The sub characters like Wren, Kayla, Sophia, and Avery I personally didn't care for. Kayla is Isis' only friend, Avery is her enemy, Sophia is Jacks kind of gf, and Wren is the nerd. That's all you really need to know about them. Sophia does become a little more important in book two but I still stand behind not caring about any of them. I will admit that as the series went on my point of view on the leading characters changed. Books one and two I was in love with Isis, but by book three I was over her. Jack however I loved by the end. Book three really made him stand out. I didn't think he was swoon worthy till the second half of Brutal Precious (book 3). He stole my heart in that last novel.

“Living is really weird. You never get used to it. But it happens anyway. And sometimes you find things that make it a little more comfortable, and you try to hold on to those things, and the tighter you hold, the faster they slip away.”

As far as the plot went I thought it was enjoyable. It stayed constant. I will say that if it wasn't for Isis in Lovely Vicious and in Savage Delight and Jack's development in Brutal Precious I would have had a laundry list of complaints about it. The bullying aspect was a little much. Some parts of the story
become a little too convenient. Any and everything involving the principal got on my nerves. Along with any part about Isis' ex, Will... And the story for the most part is rather predictable. Even with all that I still enjoyed reading it. For the most part I knew what the big secrets were, and I saw most of the endings events coming... I did not see that last few sentences in book one or two occurring however.

I mean seriously when everything starts happening at the end of Savage Delight I was like "WTF?! NO SARA NO! YOU CAN'T DO WHAT I THINK YOU'RE ABOUT TO DO! NO! WAIT NO!!!!!!" The ending of book two, of all three, was my favorite. It got really deep and ended wonderfully. I do think that book one and two were way stronger than book three, and I wanted more out of the last book. With how the first two ended I was hoping to be wowed by the finale. Sadly, I got an ending I saw coming and was a little underwhelmed. I do think the great thing about this series was it left me wanting more and had me wanting to finish the series. Again I wish they would have gotten stronger as it continued, there were a lot of predictable moments, but the way Sara Wolf writes will have me reading her writing in the future. Overall I was pleased with this book and it gave me the push I need to rock out April.

Read it and Weep

When it comes to emotions we basically have none... Crying in real life events rarely ever happens for us. However when it comes to books/books to film it happens all the time! And we mean all the time. It's to the point where it should be embarrassing but then again WE HAVE NO SHAME! So we thought it would be a wonderful idea to share a list of the books that brought us to tears, highlight the biggest hitters, and share the ones that had us feelings all the feels (yeah just said that still not ashamed).

Me Before You- Jojo Moyes
Slammed- Colleen Hoover
Point of Retreat- Colleen Hoover
Ugly Love- Colleen Hoover
Maybe Someday- Colleen Hoover
Confess- Colleen Hoover
The Fault in Our Stars- John Green
The Truth About Alice- Jennifer Mathieu
If I Stay- Gayle Forman
MockingJay- Suzanne Collins
Allegiant- Veronica Roth
Unteachable- Lead Raeder
All Our Yesterdays- Cristin Terrill
Forbidden- Tabitha Suzuma
The Choice- Nicholas Sparks
Champion- Marie Lu
Breaking Dawn- Stephanie Meyers
The Beginning of Everything- Robyn Schneider
City of Heavenly Fire- Cassandra Clare
Opposition- Jennifer L. Armentrout

Angela's Picks- As far as my top three picks for highest tissue count I selected: Ugly Love, Maybe Someday, and Forbidden. In that order (Honorable mention to Me Before You). I thought when we started making this list that TFIOS would be in my top three, but the ones I picked really did me in more so... And if you've seen or read TFIOS that should really tell you something. Ugly Love definitely takes my top spot. Not only could I not pick up another book for over a week, I also couldn't open my eyes for the same amount of time. Every time I thought about this book I became a blubbering hot mess all over again. It shattered me into a million little pieces, and delivered a thousand paper-cuts to my heart. A book has never made me hurt as hard as Ugly Love did, and I can't wait to see it in theaters next year and ugly cry all over the place (again). Maybe Someday, my next pick is also by Colleen Hoover. This book...wow this book... IS JUST PERFECT. It has the perfect start, the perfect middle, and hands down one of the best endings ever. Maybe Someday was like nothing I had ever read before and left me loving love. If you wanna know what love is and what someone to show you just pick up any Hoover book. My last pick is a book I know y'all have heard me mention on several occasions... Yup, Forbidden. I could go on for weeks (which is crystal clear since I still am) about how much I loved this novel. Not only did it bring me to tears, it had me questioning my own morals. With a story line that I didn't see coming, with plot twist I could barely handle, and with an ending that left me speechless, there was no way this book couldn't make my list. If you haven't read any of these books you have too! Just click the reviews and you'll see why. All of them are on my all time favorites list and each one gave me something so lovely to hang on to. Seriously, PICK UP THESE BOOKS! While you're at it pick up copious amounts of chocolates, and stock up on Kleenex.

Leah's Picks- I used to look at people who read sad books or watch sad movies and think "why would you pay money for something to make you cry?!" That was before I was introduced to the novels that are listed above. Now I know that you can read a book, have your heart ripped out, and then still come out feeling something positive at the end. My top three picks are The Fault in Our Stars, Slammed, and Maybe Someday. I remember when I first read TFIOS. I knew basically what it was about, but I didn't know a whole lot of information on it. Let me just say that by the end of the book, I had locked myself in my bathroom and was sitting on the floor next to the toilet sobbing my eyes out. This book brought me to a level of sadness that I didn't know you could experience without losing someone yourself. It really and truly felt like I had lost a part of me. That is why this book will always remain on the top of my favorite lists because of the strong reaction it evoked from me. In a very close second in Slammed. I avoided reading this book for a really long time because I didn't think it would be my thing. This book is everyone's thing. Seriously, it is amazing. Something that happens to one of the characters hits close to home for me in this one and it really made my knees buckle, especially during the epilogue. It was that type of thing where you are reading but you are crying so hard that you can't even see the words because snot and tears and mascara are running down your face. I haven't even read the sequel, Point of Retreat, yet because I'm just not ready. Even thinking about the end of Slammed makes my stomach hurt, so I just need some time to heal all my emotional wounds inflicted by CoHo before reading the sequel and novella. In third is Maybe Someday. Colleen Hoover holds the title for Author Most Likely To Make You Die After Reading Her Books because of all the crazy twists she pulls on her characters. I read Maybe Someday in a few hours because I just couldn't put it down. I laughed, I cried, I swooned... Basically I felt all the feels. The ending is what makes this book for me. Amazing. Who knew reading could make you hurt so good? I would seriously have called you crazy if you told me this a few years ago, but now I recommend everyone to go out and buy all of these books ASAP.

Confess by Colleen Hoover

"I'll love you forever. Even when I can’t.”

"OMG"... THIS BOOK!
THE NOTEBOOK, UGLY LOVE, TFIOS, AND HOPELESS HAD A SECRET LOVE CHILD! AND THAT LOVE CHILD IS CONFESS.

If you know anything about me then you know Colleen Hoover is my favorite author. If you don't know anything about me than that is pretty much all you need to know. She is the only author who has never let me down. Confess didn't let me down. I think Leah and I can both agree, the main thing we heard about this book was that it would induce tears within the first chapter.. And I had my doubts. Ten pages in. I REPEAT TEN PAGES IN, I WAS A COMPLETE MESS.

Confess follows the intertwining stories of Auburn and Owen. Both characters come from very separate yet equal backgrounds. Both facing more in the 20-something-years they've been alive than most will their entire lives. When Confess starts out right into Auburn's story you're more than likely, within the first few chapters, going to be thinking the same thing I was, "Ha I got this whole thing figured out". Please don't think that. If you've ever read a Hoover book then you know you'd be a fool to think that (yes I just called myself a fool, because God was I).

Auburn is desperate for a second job when fate shines its light on her and she get offered one by Owen. When stopping in front of a studio covered in anonymous people's confession she never thought things would turn out the way they do. Both Auburn and Owen are perfectly written characters. Always revealing the perfect amount of themselves at the perfect time, always giving banter at the right moments, and always pulling out all the romantic stops at the right time.

"I'm scared I'll never feel this again with anyone else," I whisper
He squeezes my hands. I'm scared you will."

I can't (sadly) say much more about them, because I know once I got started talking about them I wouldn't be able to stop! Then I would spill out all the wonderful things that make this book up! That being said I will tell you the spoil free things I loved about this book. There are four things that stole my heart and won me over. First, of course, the Art. When you think about pictures being included into a book you automatically think it'll be cheesy. It's not, it's a wonderful addition and takes this book to a level others wont reach. Second, the real readers confession that are sprinkled throughout this book and also fit so well with the art theme. Third, is the romance. It's Georgia peach sweet. And Four, well you'll have to wait a minute for that one... Promise I'll get to it in a second.

When it came to plot, I had a lot of fears. I feared that with so much hype to this book that it would let me down. Then once the first chapter brought me to tears all I could think of was "This book can only go down from here"... All that was laid to rest. The plot starts strong, stays steady, and just when you're winding up on the end of the book and you're thinking "ok that was great and all but what am I missing?"; Colleen hits you right in the face with one of her famous big reveals.... That brings you to my number four love. The ending. I never ever thought the story would end the way it did. Didn't think the story would come together and collide how she had it. The closer it got to the end the more I had to know what the ending was going to be. What the big secret was. I couldn't have been more happy with the ending! With everything perfect laid out, and the expression "somethings are better left unsaid" taking a whole new meaning, Confess will leave you wanting more. It was perfect, amazing, and I don't think I took a single breath the whole last chapter. I constantly wonder if Colleen woke up one random morning and said "you know what I'm going to be a writer" or if she has always planned on becoming one... And I don't care, I thank the literary Gods every time she puts out a piece of work. Not only does she give us something of her own, but the way she constantly finds ways to shed light on others art as well... It's just astounding.

Bound By Spells by Stormy Smith Preview

Y'all know how much we loved Bound By Duty by Stormy Smith. Well, the wait is finally over! Bound by Spells, which is the sequel to the first novel and is told from both Aidan AND Amelia's POV, is now available on Amazon. I can't tell you guys how much I loved the first book. I am a lover of all things magic, but this one really knocked it out of the park for me. I am so excited to get my hands on the sequel and see where the story goes. As if you need any more convincing, below is some excerpts from Bound by Spells as well as some fun facts and BBS broken down into five words... all written by Stormy Smith herself!

Excerpts
Excerpt One
Through our first month of class, I sat back and observed the quiet girl who moved with the same weighted motions I did. She understood loneliness. It was clear in the way she would brighten at an instructor's question, but dim as she refused to allow herself to answer. The way she moved with awkward grace, always bumping into things, but never people. I had overheard her and Bethany talking, and I knew she would be at that party. It was why I'd gone. But I felt like a creeper. I had been hiding out, berating myself for being there, when she came flying down the stairs.

I watched Amelia leap from the bottom stair of the deck like she could fly ― all of the awkwardness gone and her movements fluid and beautiful. She pushed her way into the oncoming tide. She was lit up in the moonlight as her head dropped back and from my angle, I could see her smile. I was an intruder on the moment, but her smile broke something open inside of me. She was content and I was jealous. I wanted to know her secrets. I wanted to know how she found that place. She was my beginning and my end. Because now that she's gone, I'm some kind of magical freak and I'm alone — again. (Aidan)

Excerpt Two
"Bethany? Are you okay?" I looked down at her as she contained her wild hair and looked up at me with red-rimmed eyes. She wasn't wearing any make-up. I'd never seen her look so vulnerable. I shouldn't have been surprised when she responded with her normal sarcasm. "You know, I can't imagine why anything would be wrong, Aidan. My best friend was kidnapped right out from under my nose, I was held hostage by a psychopathic Queen on a power trip after I had been kidnapped by animal witches, or AniMages, or whatever they're called, my boyfriend turned out to be a two-timing douche with magic powers, and I'm nothing but a human who gets used as bait and leverage. Can I do anything to help any of them? Nope. Sure can't. So, it's been a fine week. How about you?" she ended, a completely fake smile on her face as she stared daggers up at me. I couldn't help but laugh. "Well," I said as I dropped into the sand beside her, "I don't know if I can beat that, but I'll counter with the fact that my girlfriend is engaged to a prince of some kind of magical people I didn't know existed until last week, who also happens to be a guy I thought I was friends with. She had a chance to run away with me and didn't take it, choosing him over me, and pretty much eviscerating my heart in the process. And, I woke up not long ago suddenly able to turn into a wolf. My eyes light up like blue headlights and I lose entire chunks of time. I wake up naked every time it happens and have no idea where I am. How'd I do?" (Aidan)

Excerpt Three
I looked up at Julia, her sense of victory emanating from every pore. I wanted to blast her with everything I had. To yank off the cuff, call on the wind to send the Hunters scattering, and pin her to the wall in the way she had done to me. I wanted to watch her smile disappear as she fought to breathe, just as I had done. Clearly, the Keeper still had some impact, even from her locked room inside me. Instead, I allowed a slow smile to develop. I squeezed Micah's hand and took a step toward the Queen, bringing him along. I pushed my power through me, sending a slow wave of energy from my core outward, allowing it build. "You can force this betrothal. You can force a marriage. But you cannot force me to consummate anything." Pressure built at the base of my skull and I saw the reaction from the Hunters in my peripheral vision, confirming my eyes were shining in the Elder violet no one had seen in years. My eyes never left Julia's as I continued. "But, I am not enslaved to you like these Hunters, or an AniMage who fears for their life. You need me. We both know it. Which means you do not have all the power here." Micah pulled me into his chest just as she exploded. Red fire shot from her palm, missing me by a hair. "That," she said evenly, "was intentional. I will not miss a second time." (Amelia)

Bound by Spells, in Five Words
Action – Bound by Spells drops you right into the action and basically doesn’t quit. You’ll follow Amelia and Aidan separately, but meet a lot of new faces and never stop learning along the way.
Growth – Both Amelia and Aidan are young, just eighteen and nineteen. They are still figuring out who they are and what they are capable of. As the story progresses, you’re going to see some significant change out of both of them.
Connections – As a reader walking along with Amelia and Aidan, you’ll make a lot of connections between what you learned in Bound by Duty and what the realities of their situations truly are. You’ll also find the ties between some of our central secondary characters.
Friendship – If you were hoping to see Bethany again, of course I brought her back! But, there are also a lot of new friends introduced, and the whole story is impacted by friendships that were forged (or broken) years ago.
Love - Because at the heart of every good story and complicated ending is love. Sometimes it is between hearts, and sometimes it is the bond between people who are simply tied together by the will of another. But love changes everything.

Fun Facts about Bound by Spell by Stormy Smith

  • Queen Julia was initially King Julian. That’s technically a Bound by Duty fact but one not many people actually know. It wasn’t until the fourth draft that he became a she, and it’s one of the best decisions I made.
  • I don’t plan out a lot of my secondary characters and as I was writing one scene in particular, a little ten-year-old with scruffy red hair and a penchant for formality came to life. Dillon turned into one of my favorite characters in Spells.
  • Cresthaven, the Queen’s home in Washington, was actually named by one of my readers, Maggie. I was struggling to come up with a great name for an old Versailles-like mansion and went to my amazing Facebook community for help. I loved Maggie’s idea and ran with it!
  • One of the critical plot surprises in Spells (can’t share – spoiler alert) was something that I inadvertently set up in Bound by Duty. I was jumping for joy when I did my Duty reread and realized that I had set myself up perfectly for where the story really needed to go.
  • I have a really bad relationship with outlines. I try to do them but I’m someone who doesn’t get to write every day and when I do write, I’m in for the long haul. When I’m heads down like that and the words start flowing, crazy stuff happens and my characters just do what they need to do. I can think of a handful of scenes and ideas that came in my fugue states and those are hands down my favorite parts of the book.
  • Writing in a guy’s perspective was not as hard as I thought it would be. I’ve been either dating or married to my husband for fourteen years in total and I consider myself a fairly observant person, so watching him and the interactions between he and his friends provided me all the material I could hope for.
  •  Aidan’s mom, Kayla, was named after a reader of mine in Des Moines, Ia. The real Kayla is a local librarian, was a huge supporter of Bound by Duty and won a contest I held at my launch party. She is forever immortalized in Aidan’s story.

Insurgent Movie Review

So as yall are aware of Leah and I have been waiting forever to see this moving... Oh how we have longed to see it... We have been patience, we have stayed clear of spoilers, we have been freaking counting down the days!... All for this moment... AND OH HOW BITTER SWEET IT WAS.

I will of course be doing a run down of the whole movie. I wont be giving out any real spoilers, but I wont be holding back either. There are a handful of things that I did like about this movie, but there are A LOT of things I hated. I use the word hate heavily might I add. That being said here we go my review of Insurgent the movie VERY loosely based of the best selling novel Insurgent book by Veronica Roth.

"I know this doesn't make any sense,''  says Tris

You're right about that Hazel Grace. That sentence basically sums up Insurgent. First before I say anything I think that Tris should quit her Dauntless day job and take up cosmetology. This is where I think her true talent lies, but maybe that's just me.... Anyways the movie starts off right away with action packed-ness. Tris and her band of miscreants are still on the run from Rose Winslet the evil leader of Erudite. Rose Jeanine has her hands on the mysterious box that can only be opened up by a divergent. This is where the problems began for me... Yes, within the first few minutes. If you haven't read the book then you don't know that the box wasn't in it. If you have read the book then you know what was going to be hiding in it... At least you think you do. HOW ROSE DAWSON KNOWS THAT SOME SPECIAL SNOW-FLAKE DIVERGENT IS NEEDED TO OPEN SAID BOX, THAT THE BOX WAS FOUND BURIED IN THE PRIOR HOUSE, AND THAT SHE YET WASN'T ABLE CONNECT THE DOTS TO FIGURE OUT THAT TRIS, WHO SHE KNOWS TO BE DIVERGENT WOULD PROBABLY BE THE ONE SHE WOULD NEED TO OPEN THE BOX IS BEYOND ME!!!! The freaking leader of the faction that is all about being brainiacs couldn't figure out that she needed Tris shows why they were so easy to overthrow.

Everything from how they arrived at the Amity compound seeking safety, to how they leave Amity is changed. Basically they took two hundred pages and crammed it all into the first 30 minutes of the movie. This leaving the audience with the start of their confusion. As seen in the trailer they are running away from the soldiers/dauntless traitors now working for Jeanine when they see a train they can use for escaping....This part had me LOLing. THERE IS NO FREAKING WAY THEY COULD HAVE POSSIBLY OUT RAN KAT VON D AND HER FOREHEAD DERMALS!!! THAT DUDE WAS RUNNING LIKE THE FLIPPING TERMINATOR!!!! Also I don't know how at least 50+ trained dauntless soldiers couldn't have shot at least Caleb. Clearly Four's classroom training skills are lacking. Anyways, at this point you might be thinking what I was thinking... YAY they're about to start getting really into the book now, God I can't wait to see what Edward looks like. Well sorry to bust your bubble so early on, but this doesn't happen. Instead of bringing back good ole pirate patch having Edward we get introduced to the first of many pointless characters. This all happens while a random, again not in the book, fight scene happens. This all leading them to the Factionless. Yes it does jump around that quickly. SIDE-NOTE: I JUST DIDN'T GET WHY THEY DIDN'T MAKE SEMI MOHAWK DUDE EDWARD?!?!?! IT WOULD HAVE MADE JUST AS LITTLE SENSE AS THAT GUY!!?? I can't possible be the only one to think of this?!?!

Once we get to the Factionless we are introduced to Theo's mother. The leader of the homeless. This starts off a list of problems all in itself. Instead of having the factionless scattered through out locations they have them all living in the market place from The Hunger Games. This however, was a plus to the story. Tobias then introduces Tris to his mother, Evelyn. Who explains that she left Abnegation to flee her husband who was an abusive drunk and that the reason she didn't bring her son was because she was so young... Seriously, Theo James and her look the same age.... So you gave birth at like what seven?!? Yeah, you're right you were way too young to be raising a kids, becoming hobo is SUCH a better idea. Yes, to some this might sound minor but it still bothered me. This section also had some big changes: the kids jumping off the roof scene, Marcus not being present, Caleb's exit, the fact that the homeless own makeup, and the play out of alliances were all altered. Leading to more confusion for non-readers.

Then again the movie jumps to them going to a new location. This time in Candor were more of the book is altered. Tris and Four still undergo the truth serum in a really cool room with the guy from Lost, this scene, though important in the book, movie wise just opens up a whole new can of worm questions... And Tris' acting is hard to watch during this scene... IT'S BAD!!!! She keeps doing both that squeaky hamster sound she's constantly making and ugly crying all over the place. While at Erudite we do get introduced to some of the big players from the book, but sadly they served no purpose in the movie. Marlene, Susan Black, Uriah, his brother, Lynn, and Hector were all either not present or pointless. Now that I think about it, most of the factionless, and their presents is pointless! Combined all of them spent maybe 15 minutes on screen. While people had such boners for these characters also is beyond me. Of course before exiting Candor the writers thought they hadn't changed enough and decided to add in a whole new section complete with a face scanner, and a new way for Eric to make his exit. Jumping yet again the couple is back with the homeless, but not for long. Tris decides to Dine-and-Dash on the man candy that is Theo James before heading off too turn herself in too Jeanine. WE DON'T EVEN GET A FOUR AB SHOT!!!! The change in the way Tris and Four's relationship was done so much better. In the book I couldn't stand them being together. They were beyond annoying spending over 300 pages arguing. In the movie their relationship is sweet, caring, and not full of lies.

AWWWW and the scenery changes again! Starting to get whiplash!

While being held in the Erudite compound things actually start picking up and getting good... Why is that? Two reasons The Inception like simulations and Peter (Miles Teller). And I don't mean to toot my own horn, but I'm going to anyways, I CALLED IT!!! I freaking called it. I said that I had a feeling Miles Teller would be the star on-top of the Christmas Tree of this movie and I was right. In Divergent I didn't see him as Peter, in Insurgent I got why they cast him. He gave me all the things I wanted from book Peter and didn't get. Teller did what he is known for and brought the comic relief. Thank the Lords above because this movie needed it. (Honorable mention to Ansel Elgort because he also nailed it) The sims were like I was saying, also nice. The effects were great. I actually liked that they took a large drawn out section of the book and shoved it into her having to do 5 sims to open the box. I even liked the simulation that came straight out of the movie Up. This was what I was thinking I was going to hate in this movie. Turned out I liked it. Thought after the whole truth serum situation that Tris wouldn't be able to pull of the deep and action packed section this put in front of her. She nailed it though. I liked almost everything about them being in the Erudite compound. I thought it was a little bit silly that Tris and Four refused to use guns during their escape (even though we all know Theo James already carries two lethal weapon aka his left and right arms, HEY OOOOOO). But wait, don't get too excited now, this also brings me to my biggest issue with this movie.  THE ENTIRE ENDING!!! THE WHOLE FREAKING ENDING PISSED ME OFF BEYOND BELIEF. When reading the book the reason I loved it so much was for those last few pages when we get slapped with an ending we didn't see coming. IT'S THE WHOLE REASON I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING THIS MOVIE! When the movie starts winding down I was waiting on pins and needles for this moment... AND THEY CHANGED IT!!! AND IT SUCKS SO MUCH DICK!!!!! THE BEST PART OF THE BOOK AND YOU CHANGE IT!!! I can get over the plot holes, I can get over the jumpy story line, I can even get over the left out characters, but I CAN NOT get over the change of this ending! I HAVE NO CLUE what they plan on doing with the next movie. Pissed doesn't even begin to state my reaction.

I truly think that when it comes to page to premieres that the critics reviews are nice to see, but the only opinion that matters to me is those of the readers. The ones who have read the books and now are seeing the movie. And if I completely separate the book and the movie, than yes the movie is entertaining and overall alright... But as a reader I wasn't happy. The things like the box and the simulations were such an added bonus of a surprise. These were all things I thought would have me hating the movie and I loved that my mind was changed on those. The changes in somethings were needed. But the extent to how it was changed.... was just too much. The elimination of most the characters, the rush of timeline, and the alternate ending had me sighing.

Lucky for me I have a double date to see it again tonight. Lets just say that my face the whole time I'll be watching this the second time around will be resting bitch. I keep hoping that I'll wake up from a simulation and that the ending will be different. But I warn yall now, if they change the ending to Allegiant then Charleston better look out because I will punch a whole through this town!

6/10 Please never make fun of The Mortal Instruments again Stars

Revisiting a book The Lux Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Sigh, so I have been feeling the book blues. I felt like all this month I have been in a reading funk. I don't know what's up but hopefully I can shake it off soon and get back into the swing of things.... Anyways, people always say that when you're in a reading rut that you should take a step back and pick up a book you've read before and loved. So this month I decided that my re-visiting of a book would be the book that I still too this date say is my favorite series ever. I read this series some time ago and recently I've been wondering if I re-read this book if I would still think it was my all time favorite (completed) series.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. Katy and him do not get along. But when a stranger attacks her and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand something unexpected happens.

Thinking about it and being in my slump had me picking up this series again. This week I took the time to re-read all 5 books. I also decided to do something a little different with the review as well...I decide to review this series as a whole. This is something I wouldn't do but in this case I felt it was necessary. I wont be giving out any spoilers I'll just be touching down on some bases about how I feel about this series as a whole. As I said above The Lux Series is a completed series by Jennifer L. Armentrout, with the fifth and final book coming out last year. The series is made up of Obsidian, Onyx, Opal, Origin, and Opposition.

I CANT EVEN START TO EXPLAIN HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS SERIES!!!! LIKE HOLY ALIEN BABIES EVERYWHERE MY MIND HAS AGAIN BEEN BLOWN AND MY HEART HAS REMAINED TAKEN!

Everyone and their mom knows I'm more than a little obsessed with aliens so when it comes to books about them I am very very picky. So when I was first shown this book I wasn't really looking forward to reading them. With their cheesy old school romance covers... I just couldn't! BUT I finally decided to say "Screw it" and pick them up. Thank god I did that and this time. The Lux Series is still my all time favorite (completed) series. Even though the first book is like alien twilight I didn't even care. I prefer aliens to vampires anyways. I think this is one of the first series that gets better with each books. Each one I read outshines the last. I normally find myself saying how much I like the first book more than the third or the second one didn't match up well with the last, etc. etc. This wasn't an issue with this series, I repeat, each book is better than the last! (Opal and Origin are tied for my personal favorite because THOSE ENDING!!!!!! OMG!!!!! NO SERIOUSLY, CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE ENDING OF ORIGIN?!>!!?!$%^#%^$% LIKE WHAT!)

Not only is this one of my favorite series, it holds one of my all time favorite book couples... Katy Schwartz and Daemon Black. And lets just get down to brass tax... Daemon Black steals the show in every book. GOOD GOD DO I LOVE THAT SEXY ALIEN! His cocky over the top attitude never let me down. I love his love for life, family, and his lady. I liked that he was seriously the biggest dick on this and any other planet. Katy is a girl who refuses to be in the background. Her constant need to take Daemon down a few pegs, made me constantly want to high five her. But I like everyone else who has read this series, am in love with the romance. I love it! Sigh, it was just perfect.

“So I was thinking, they're eighty-six thousand, four hundred seconds in a day, right? They're one thousand, four hundred and forty minutes in a day...They're one hundred and sixty-eight hours in a week. Around eighty-seven hundred and then some hours in a year, and you know what?...I want to spend every second, every minute, every hour with you...I want a year's worth of seconds and minutes with you. I want a decade's worth of hours, so many that I can't add them up.”

(TAKE ME AWAY!!!! BEAM ME UP HOTTIE!!!!)
This story also holds so many amazing second characters. As far as those went Luc and Archer are my favorites. (Leah, I know you're reading this and shaking your head and making fun of me BUT YOU KNOW I LOVE SUB CHARACTERS! AND HOW CAN YOU NOT LOVE LUC!!! That little lunchable eating son of a gun).

Normally when a series is this action packed it would come off as trying to hard, NOPE Jennifer Armentrout made it seem effortless... These books are seriously the definition of "a page turner". Each book left you wanting more. Even the last one had me wishing there was just one more! She gets sarcasm and romance on a level that a lot of ya authors just don't get... like holy hot alien scenes!!! (I heard a little rumor that Jla is writing a new book that will extent on the Lux Series!!! Someone please tell me if this is true?!!! Because I just might die.)

These books had me laughing, crying, screaming, and wanting to flip over tables with excitement. The characters are amazing, well built, hilarious, and just over all lovely! Re-reading this series wasn't a mistake. I'm 100% sure that Jennifer Armentrout wrote this series for me, I mean aliens, romance, and witty comebacks will forever be the key to my heart and Jennifer Armentrout owns that key. The only sad part about re-reading it was having to realize all over again that it's over. That there is no more Daemon Black in store. No more sweet alien invasions. No more amazing plot twist. For that I am not thankful, but for having read these I am. Jennifer L. Armentout still remains one of the few authors I will drop everything I'm doing/reading to pick up anything she writes.

Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire

I haven't been this pissed off reading a book since Bad Romeo. Beautiful Disaster was a cluster eff of a read managing to throw everything I hate in a book into one novel.
My first issue with this book are the characters. Our leading lady is Abby Abernathy. Then there's our leading man Travis Maddox. I can capture my feels for both of them at the same time. I HATE THEM!!! I CAN'T STAND THEM!!!! Actually that really undersells how I feel towards them but whatever. Abby is DUMB! there's is no other word I can use to describe her. I have never wanted to tear a characters hair out more than hers. She is such a plain character that turns out to be more boring than watching paint dry. It's clear that the writer wanted to make it out to be that Abby would be this special snowflake but it was the fail of fails. Her sub story is that she comes from this terrible up-bringing... Even though the premise behind her tale was set up to be a success it too failed! This brings me to Travis... Oh God I don't even know where to start with this this Patrick Bateman in training. This boy was two shakes of lambs tail away from cutting Abby up and making her into a skin suit. I would gladly let "Mr. Grey see me now" than let him touch me with a ten foot pole. He is creepy, abusive, controlling, scary, unattractive, cocky, and bizarre. This dude is beyond unstable. I also imagine him to be a  mouth breather so that just adds to the growing list of reason I hated him. McGuire writes it so that Travis is this womanizing-college frat-man whore. Girls vagina literately bust out of their pants every time they see him. This causing me to roll my eyes so hard that they almost dislodged from my head!

This leads me to problem two and three with this book. Maybe it's just me (doubtful but maybe) but if I was about to hook up with a dude and I opened his besides table and there was an endless amount of condoms and KY Jelly I would fly out of that room so fast that boy would think he was Dorthy... And if that didn't make up my mind then the fact that he brings home not one, but TWO girls and sleeps with them in the living room while I'M IN HIS BED! would of had me never ever speaking to him again. NO GIRL IN HER RIGHT MIND WOULD HAVE SWEPT THAT UNDER THE RUG! The scene made me want to vomit then drink the cleaning  products under my sink. Travis has major bipolar, drinking, jealousy, and personality issues. Travis also manages to keep Jesus abs the whole time without ever working out... HA NO!

My fourth issue is the "love triangle"... It slightly reflected the same way the one from Twilight did, as in it was pointless. You never once think that Bella's not going to choose Edward. Never once did you think. "Wow Jacob might actually win the girl", No! that doesn't happen! Why this B would choose the travesty that is Travis over the handsome pre-doctor gentlemen is beyond me... Again Maybe that's just me. On to issue five, NO GUY NO GUY EVER!!!! WITH ANY AMOUNT OF PRIDE, STANDARDS, OR EVEN ONE WITH HALF A BRAIN WOULD LET THE GIRL THEY ARE COURTING SLEEP IN THE BED WITH ANOTHER MAN. You're telling me that you still want to take this girl on a date even though she is living with another man and laying in bed with him every night (no the pre-doc wasn't clueless to these acts)?!?!?! YOU STILL THOUGHT SHE'D END UP WITH YOU?!?! Please GTFOOH! No, there's no way I'm believing this. I also don't believe Abby could be dangling these two dudes by their balls when they both openly know she is bouncing between them like that white ball in a game of pong. Nope, again I just can't!

My sixth issue is the plot. It's all over the place. It's one spotty scene after another of Travis trying to dick measure with any and every guy. Once I heard this dude had tribal tattoos and was in an underground fight club (did I fail to mention this, YEAH HE IS IN A POOR EXCUSE FOR A FIGHT CLUB!!!) I should have known to put this book down... HMMMM TRAVIS I HATE TO BREAK IT TOO YOU BUT YOU ARE NO BRAD PITT. I also struggled to remember if this was high school or college... They had a set freaking lunch time!!! Did no one else catch that?! Oh and the fact that Travis kept beating the snot out of people with NO repercussions! WHERE THE EFF WAS THE PRINCIPAL DEAN??? OH and don't get me started on the whole high-school musical sing along thing. (Seriously, what the hell did I just read?) No just No!

My seventh and I think final issue (JK I could probably go on for days) with this book are the sub-characters. America is the worst best friend in history of friends. Shep is the worst family member in the history of the world. The only character that I thought made any sense was Kara!! She was the only character I liked. I kept screaming "THANK YOU!" every time she spoke!

"Do you know what codependency is, Abby? Your boyfriend is a prime example, which is creepy considering he went from having no respect for women at all to thinking he needs you to breathe."

Why Abby kept blowing her off also blew my mind. There were just so many things I couldn't get behind. I know that the great part about books are that they can be anything. That they can go anywhere real or unrealistic. But this was just to far from either. I just can't really get over how much I disliked everything about this book. The characters, weak. The plot, weaker. The romance, the weakest.

Whatever Walking Deads on so I'm over this.

My Life with the Walter Boys by Ali Novak

Jackie lost her whole family in a car accident and now must move from New York to Colorado and live with the Walter family. She's going from living in the big city to a small town, from private school to public, and from having one sibling to twelve. She thought she was going to be the one who hated being there but it seems that the 12 other children hate it even more.

I picked up My life with the Walter Boys so I could have a sweet light December read. I got exactly that.

As Jackie tries to adjust to her new life, school, and friends it seems like two of the Walter boys have taken an interest in her. Cole the swoon worthy-ex jock-womanizer. Alex mister geek-charming with a super sweet side. Coming between two brothers was the last thing she thought she would get herself into when she was transplanted into her new life, but now she will have to figure out who and what she wants to do.

Jackie was a character that I had to grow into. I really didn't like her "no risk" attitude at first but by the end the way I felt towards her had completely changed. Cole was for the most part what you thought he would be. Boob jerk turns sweet guy. Alex was the one that surprised me. Wont say why but he was a lot different than I first figured. This book is heavy on the love triangle aspect, but it is well written so it was enjoyable to read. It wasn't my favorite one but it was still really fun to read. I didn't like how Alex was so one sided and didn't want to listen and I didn't like that Cole always seemed to be leading Jackie on. At some points Jackie made me want to pull my hair. and punch her in the face. Like stop acting so stupid!!!

What I did really like was even though it was heavy on the love tri (I do love them but I still want more) is that she still had it so that Jackie did things and built relationships with all the boys. The way she has that set up was really cute and unique too. I think if there was a love triangle involving two brothers that this is what it would be like.Overall awkward....

The setting of this story though common was still nice. I like the struggles laid out in front of everyone and for the most part how they played out. There were so many great moments in this books. I think the pranks pulled were the major highlights to this story. The part where they steal her clothes while she's in the shower had me rollin. Even with the minor complaints I threw into this review I really did enjoy reading this. The only thing that really bothered me was the ending. I wanted so much more. No, it wasn't a bad ending, but it was just an ending. There was just something missing about it and I can't quite place my finger on it. I heard a rumor from a GR friend that there will be a sequel and I was so happy to hear about that, because I need more!!!

This wasn't the best book I've read in 2014 but it was far from the worst. It would fall in the middle with a lot of other mid stars. Excited to continue this series if she does do a follow up.

Hopeless by Colleen Hoover

Seventeen-year-old Sky realizes life might not be exactly what she thought it was after she meets Dean Holder. A guy whose reputation rivals her own and an uncanny ability to invoke feelings in her she’s never had before. Sky struggles to keep Dean at a distance knowing he’s nothing but trouble, but Holder insists on invading every part of her life. After finally caving to his unwavering pursuit, Sky soon finds that Holder isn’t at all who he’s been claiming to be. When the secrets he’s been keeping are finally revealed, every single facet of Sky’s life will change forever.

It is a wide known fact that Colleen Hoover is my favorite author, and has never let me down. With Hopeless she continued to keep me happy. I feel like I say this every time I write a review for one of Hoover's books but the only way you should really go into one is by knowing the bare minimum. The people who have reviewed her books have constantly done one thing that still amazes me... The have continued to keep her plot twist a secret. You know good and well that if you have a goodreads account that you have gone to read a review (and it wasn't hidden due to spoilers), have read something on it you didn't want to know, then gotten so mad that you saw it that in the long run it ruined the book for you... I have NEVER had this problem with her books. SO AGAIN THANK YOU for keeping up the mystery!!! Just like with other Hoover reads I started Hopeless thinking it was one thing and then it turned out to be another.

We start the story with our leading lady Sky, who I just loved. She is a home schooled jungle freak who is starting out her first year in public school. Her adoptive mother has kept her pretty sheltered from the outside world. She has no phone, internet, and they don't even have a TV. This leaves her pretty cut off from the outside world. Her main friend and connection to the real world (up until school) is her best friend Six. Sadly once Sky enrolls into school they find out Six study abroad was approved and that she will be missing most of the year. But never fear Dean Holder comes into the picture and helps ease the terribleness that is high school. Since he also has quite the reputation following him, the two hit it off. She also becomes friends with the moron homosexual that is the amazing Breckin. Both Sky and Dean's characters are amazing! Sky is just as strong and stubborn as Dean. Dean is charming and is more than swoon worthy. And as I was saying, Breckin OMG, what an amazing sub character!!!! Every character in this book is spot on. Her mom, her friends, her new man, all perfect.

As far as the plot goes...It's just WOW. The first half of this book is a little more steady, but definitely not boring. The first half is all about the building of Sky's world and her new relationship with Dean and how her life has been living with Karen, the women who adopted her after her mother passed and her father has given up on her. This is all leading up to the "big reveal(s)". Yes, because there are a few. First is the way (don't worry I'm not about to spoil you) the title comes into play. The title of Colleen's books are always so on point, but I think as of right now Hopeless is my favorite title of hers. When it is revealed why it has that name my mind was BLOWN... TWICE! But she doesn't stop there, she has a bunch of tiny (though a little predictable) twist near the end as well... BUT the big reveal that happens between those two... JUST OMG!!! It comes out of nowhere! And when it happens you'll probably have to re-read it, because I know I was like "wait a second did that just happen... no really did they just say what I think they said... no way... omg yes

Because Y'all I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING!!!!!! SAYING MY MIND WAS BLOWN WOULD BE AN UNDERSTATEMENT! Like where on earth did this come from! And just like that everything in the story clicks and your world is crushed! Colleen seriously knocked my socks off! Just crazy...

So you're probably wondering why I didn't give this a perfect rating... For two simple reasons. Dean does become a "convenient" character. And you will see what his purpose is pretty early on. The second reason is that after that HUGE EARTH SHATTERING reveal happens you will have everything for the most part figured out. All that being said, Hopeless still is a must read! The relationship is so sweet, the plot is just as strong, and that one big twist makes up for any of the tiny other ones that you see coming. I don't think Colleen Hoover can write a bad book.

This Song Will Save Your Life by Leila Sales

Making friends has never been Elise Dembowski’s strong suit. All throughout her life, she’s been the butt of every joke and the outsider in every conversation. When a final attempt at popularity fails, she nearly gives up. Then she stumbles upon a warehouse party where things start making a lot more sense to her.

At the end of January I asked my friends on goodreads to recommend me their favorite books/the books that brought them to tears. I got A TON of responses... messages, comments, direct recommendations. So I decided to pick the ones that were most recommended and do a massive haul just off books recommended to me. I got around 15 books. One of the books that was suggested several times to me was This Song Will Save Your Life.

I was really skeptical at first about reading this because the first one of these recommended books I read I was let down by... This isn't the case with this book. Even though This Song Will Save Your Life was a suggested book, recently I've decided to go into books blind. So within the first few chapters I was really shocked about what this story turned into. When the "issue" happens and then is carried throughout the story I never originally saw it coming. It hit me hard too... Pretty sure I said "someone call a barista because this roast just got dark"... And I was worried that this heavy cloud was going to rain all over this book for me. It didn't

If my bookshelf at home wasn't arranged in alphabetical order than I put place this book right beside The Truth About Alice. I would more than likely say they were sister reads as well. This book hit my heart the same way that story did. Because Elise is someone I could easily relate to. Her struggles were some of the same I had to face when I was in high school. Elise's character development doesn't truly start toward close to the end of this story and I that would normally be a turn off for me, but it wasn't. The fact that it started so late into her story reminded me so much of my own life tale... because my character development didn't start till later either. I was also very lucky for two reasons in high-school one) that I had my very own Vicky and two) I was wise enough at the time to know that high school wasn't going to determine the rest of my life. I only had one real friend in high-school (who is still my best friend), who didn't judge me, didn't care that I wasn't the popular girl, didn't care that I wasn't interested in designer jeans, and was completely fine with my head always being in clouds because I'm a special breed of weird.

Books like This Song Will Save Your Life and The Truth About Alice are books that I wish were written and read when I was in school. They are coming of ages stories that just SHOULDN'T be missed. I'm writing this short and vague review just to rant in general about the amazing-ness that is this book. In hopes that you will just go out and buy it yourself. People will relate in some way to this book. There’s at least one character in this book that you know in real life. Or that you might even have been at some point... Good or bad. On top of all the wonderful things this book has to offer it also managed to flawlessly intertwine music into it. Being a big music person, going to a school of the arts, and taking so many theory classes I was relieved to find myself not having any complaints about it.

I'm so thankful I was recommended this story. A story with a strong lead, a strong plot, and a stronger message.

“You think it's so easy to change yourself. You think it's so easy, but it's not. True, things don't stay the same forever: couches are replaced, boys leave, you discover a song, your body becomes forever scarred. And with each of these moments you change and change again, your true self spinning, shifting positions-- but always at last it returns to you, like a dancer on the floor. Because throughout it all, you are still, always, you: beautiful and bruised, known and unknowable. And isn't that - just you - enough?"

This Song Will Save Your Life isn't the perfect book, but it has the perfect message. This was a book that I thought was going to be slammed with mess, mix messages, and tons of cliches'. It wasn't.

Command Me by Geneva Lee

He was a stranger and still so familiar. It wasn't until I woke up to my picture splashed on the cover of tabloids that I realized I knew who he was. And he's no prince charming.

Okay, so I wasn't going to write a review on this book, but then I thought "how can I not". It was that bad good.  So here comes another ranting review.

Command Me follows two leading characters. Clara and Alexander.... And I'm just gonna jump Right in on them. Clara is a way stronger written character than Alex (after reading this full review I don't know really how much that's going to say about her character). She's sassy and kind of funny, but honestly that's about it. She has a job doing..? Well I couldn't tell you! Something with social media I think?!. She seriously attends her job like once. I know she comes from money and all but she's constantly trying to assert herself as this strong independent lady, but really I have no clue how she's paying for crap. Also were never really told what she looks like. Lee kind of makes it out to be that she's curvy, but then again I'm not sure. Oh, I do know she has auburn hair, so there's at. On to Alexander though. The dashing, mysterious prince... Just wait a second, I know what you're thinking "did she just say prince?"... You bet your sweet buns I did. Yeah Alex aka X is THE prince.  Okay, yeah maybe I wouldn't consider him THE prince because it never seems like he's ever really working either. He never seems to be doing any princely things. We do however get a great description of him. He's tall, pale, jet black bed head, with a chiseled jawline... (Wait, what was that noise??! Uh yeah the sound of a thousand panties dropping) Maybe it's just me but I love any man with jet black tousled hair and a jawline for days. Swoon. But what he has in the looks department he is lacking in personality. Besides that sexy description I couldn't tell you anything about him. He brought nothing character wise to the table. Sigh. All looks and no brain, what's a girl to do.  He does share the cutest little fox hunting story so that did give him some  extra points.

As far as the story line went it was all over the place. It literally took place all over the place. I felt like the story started off plot wise stronger at the start than it did towards the middle and end. At the start we have this super lusty kind of forbidden romance that's hitting all the news stands, then in the middle we get this wtf am I reading romance, and then at the end you feel like you got what you paid for romance. (Just to let Yall know I didn't pay for this it was a free kindle read... So yeah).

When the romance started it was like....

Then when they get to the estate and they get all "steamy" there things get a little odd and is more like....

Seriously it gets weird.
The plot somehow manages to both flow and anti flow at the same time... Anti flow mmmm I don't think that's a thing but whatever....

Then we have your thrown in there back characters like her sister whose name I can't remember but I know it was dumb. Who I also couldn't stand. Then there's Edward who was to die for. I want to eat soup, go shopping, and watch trashy Telly with him all day. Then there's this other girl who also had a dumb forgettable name, something like Pippa or papa, or salsa, idk either way she was soooo terrible. Her character made me want to eat my own vomit. Just to let yall know why that is it's because Ya girl Clara had like this back story about having a eating disorder that somehow leaked to the press and now salsa keeps bringing it up every two pages. And I get Alex's fams all like "blah you can't date her she's not British blah" and salsa tries to use that too her advantage, but having this girl bring up Clara's "eating problem" over and over again was just annoying!!!! Over all for the most part the plot is solid---ish.

All that being said you're probably thinking I hated this book.  YOU'RE WRONG! I actually really liked it. No clue why! Stayed up late reading it and loved the way it ended! At one point towards the end I even found myself saying "oh no you didn't" like people use to in like 2005 when it still wasn't cool. You're not going to be surprised by the ending or anything. It's kind of given that since it's book one that it'll end on some kind of cliffhanger. It's does get real intense towards the end though.

Really have no clue why I liked it so much, just found it rather entertaining, and isn't that what it's really all about?! Ha, who knows.
